UOB welcomes SMU study mission
supporting the newly-launched U0B-SMU Enterprise Institute for SMEs
As part of the continuing collaboration with Singapore Management University (SMU), UOB Thai recently welcomed a group of 40 SMU faculty and students on a study tour to Thailand with mission to gain better regional economic and business perspectives for SMEs with regional expansion interest.
The visit was organized following the newly-launched joint initiative UOB-SMU Asian Enterprise for SMEs, founded in September 2012, to assist small and medium business owners who seek to expand their business in the region, by providing business planning and useful information on production issues, employment development and other information that are applicable to their business expansion.
On their Thailand study tour, Assistant Professor Low Aik Meng of SMU led the delegation to visit various public and private sectors ranging from hospitality, tourism and manufacturing industries, banking and finance business including a visit to UOB Thailand headquarters where they were briefed on financial and banking landscape in Thailand.
Assistant Professor Low said: “The purpose of SMU is to produce broad-based, creative and entrepreneurial leaders with a global mindset for the knowledge-based economy”. Studymissions overseas for its students is one of the approaches used to inculcate a global perspective in students and gain insights to equip SMEs with information and expertise to help their regional expansion.”
During the visit to UOB in Thailand, Mr. Peter Foo, President and CEO, UOB (Thai) and Mr. Loi Kai Cheow, Executive Director of Commercial Banking welcomed and shared insights on Thai financial landscape and cross border banking business.
